Granby, March 26, 2025 – Today marked the official launch of construction work for Groupe Robin’s new dual-branded hotel in Granby, a symbolic milestone that coincides with the 50th anniversary of this visionary family business. This large-scale project, which will bring together the Holiday Inn Express & Suites and Candlewood Suites chains, represents an investment of more than $20 million and is part of a commitment to help enrich the local hotel offering while supporting the regional economy and tourism.
A Project Rooted in the Local Community
True to its commitment to regional partnerships, Groupe Robin is collaborating with several local stakeholders for the construction of this new hotel. Architect Caroline Denommée, from Denommée Architectes, has brought a distinctive Granby touch to the design of the building. The company has chosen Groupe AllaireGince Infrastructures for excavation works. As the project progresses, other local subcontractors and suppliers will be called upon to contribute to its completion and strengthen the sense of local pride.
“For us, it is essential to build strong relationships with local partners in order to create a project that reflects the pride and dynamism of the community,” said Nellie Robin, President of Groupe Robin.
A 50th Anniversary Marked by an Emblematic Project
As Groupe Robin celebrates its half-century of existence this year, the family business continues to innovate and build projects that have a lasting impact. This new LEED®-certified hotel, Groupe Robin’s fifth, demonstrates the company’s commitment to responsible construction practices adapted to the environmental challenges of today and tomorrow.
“Fourteen years ago, we inaugurated our first LEED®-certified hotel in Saint-Hyacinthe, the first of its kind in Canada. Today, in this pivotal year for our company, we are proud to pursue this approach in Granby, a city with a strong economic and touristic potential,” added Nellie Robin.
A Driving Force for Granby’s Economy and Tourism
Strategically located at the intersection of Routes 112 and 139, this project will offer 128 rooms and studios to meet the varied needs of a diverse clientele of tourists, corporate guests and sports travellers. It will generate around thirty new jobs and will integrate seamlessly into the region’s economic development, complementing existing infrastructure such as the convention centre and the Granby Zoo.
The work, set to begin this season, is expected to conclude with an official opening in spring 2026.
Ms. Julie Bourdon, Mayor of Granby, highlighted the positive impact of this project on the region: “The opening of this new hotel is excellent news for the economic and tourism development of the city. The Council is pleased to support this initiative through the tax credit granted to the hotel sector. This new measure is part of our first economic development strategy and aims in particular to encourage the development of sports tourism. It’s a truly exciting addition to the city’s tourism offering.”
